So God sent out some cool death rays from heaven and they came over Moses and his body gave out and he fell to his knees. Then he keeled over on his side and finally lay lifeless on the ground, dead.  

 

Joshua was designated to take over as leader and he would shortly instigate a 30 day mourning period where the people would lament the death of their beloved leader. But, for now, something had to be done with Moses' body. Moses was so important that he was not going to be buried by any mere mortal. He was going to be buried by someone very special.
