Journey to the Centre
of the Earth...
With Jesus
|
|
Jesus was headed for a place known as the abode of the dead. This is where the spirits of people went when they died. Some people call this place Hades.
Jesus had told people about the abode of the dead in one of his stories. In this story, Jesus explained that one side of "Hades" (as he called it) was quite pleasurable. This is where the spirits of nice people were comforted after they died. Jesus called this part "Abraham's Bosom". But the other side was pretty nasty. That's where all the bad people went when they died. There, they were tormented day and night. Jesus wasn't going to the bad side, though. He was only headed for the good side, Abraham's Bosom. And as all the people of Jesus' time knew, the abode of the dead was located beneath the earth.
