What Have You Done for Me Lately?

The old prophet’s sons had witnessed it all and had run home quickly to tell their father. The old prophet asked which direction the man had gone, and when his sons told him, he immediately saddled his donkey to chase after him. He caught up with the man of God near the road, where he had stopped to rest from the heat.

The old prophet got off his donkey and asked the man sitting down if he was the holy one from Judah and the young man told him, “Yes I am.” Then the old prophet asked him to come back and eat with him. But the man of God said, “No, because I am not to eat or drink anything while I am here.”

“But wait,” said the old prophet. “I am a prophet too, just like you are, and what’s more, an angel from God told me to bring you back and give you something to eat and drink.”

“Really?” the man of God said, “An angel of the Lord said that? Well that’s different. Let’s go. I’m really thirsty”

But the old prophet had lied to him.
