They grabbed the man roughly and took him back to the camp to see Moses. They told Moses what had happened, but Moses wasn't sure what to do with the man. He said he would have to ask God about it.

So Moses went before God and asked him what kind of punishment would be appropriate for the man who had picked up sticks. God spoke to Moses and said, “You must take this man outside of the camp and have him stoned to death.”

“Righto!” said Moses. “Will do.”

The young man hadn't quite heard what God had said, so he turned to his captors and whispered, “Did God say store his new desk?”

“No." The captor replied. "He said stone him to death."

“WHAT!!??” the man yelped. “You’ve got to be kidding me!”

“No, I’m not kidding you. Now get moving,” said the captor, pushing him forward.
