When the people realized what was happening they said, “We can’t let the Ark remain here or the god of Israel will kill us all.” So they called their leaders together to determine what to do. They moved the Ark to the town of Gath, but the same thing happened there. Then they moved the Ark to Ekron, but the same thing happened there. 

After seven months of plague the Philistines had had enough, and they decided to get rid of the Ark. One of the Philistine leaders asked the head priest what to do, and the priest told them that they must return the ark with a “guilt offering.” But this was a very special guilt offering.
