When Jacob arrived at Haran, he met some shepherds. They were hanging around a well which had a large rock covering it. Jacob asked why they weren’t letting their flocks drink and the shepherds told him it was customary to wait till everyone had arrived. Just then Jacob turned to see one of the most beautiful women he had ever seen. He asked who she was and the shepherds told him she was Laban’s daughter, Rachel. She was his cousin.

Jacob removed the stone and gave water to this beautiful woman's flock. Then he kissed Rachel and started sobbing as he told her who he was and how excited he was to meet her. His other cousin, Leah, was there too, but he wasn't excited about meeting her because she wasn't very nice looking at all.

The girls took Jacob home to meet their father, Laban, and they told him everything that happened. Laban thought Jacob sounded like a bit of an effeminate cry baby but he welcomed him anyway. Meanwhile, Jacob had been thinking a lot about Rachel and had come up with a daring proposal. He offered to work for his uncle for seven years in return for being allowed to marry Rachel at the end. Laban thought this was a great idea and accepted immediately. Jacob didn’t bother to inquire about Leah because, well, why would he when she looked like that?
